Feisty Gen Z Millionaires Shaking Up the Investment World with Crypto, Real Estate, and Art

The new generation of wealthy individuals is rewriting the rulebook on how fortunes are managed and spent. No longer satisfied with just designer goods and luxury properties, these young millionaires and billionaires are embracing alternative assets, pushing the boundaries of traditional investments.
A recent Bank of America survey found that 28% of investors aged 21-43 are allocating significant portions of their wealth to cryptocurrencies and digital assets. This group is reshaping the investment landscape, moving beyond the conventional to explore new opportunities in #crypto, sneakers, #art, #brandedresidences and impact investing.

Olyvia Kwok, founder of Willstone Management, highlighted this trend: “Young people are the new buying power. They’re bold, they’ve made their fortunes in tech, crypto, and AI, and they’re spending it on everything from art to rare wines and watches.”

Kwok’s experience mirrors this shift. She’s facilitated millions in art deals, many of which were passed over by traditional collectors but eagerly snapped up by Gen Z investors. These young millionaires are less interested in blue-chip artists like Andy Warhol, instead opting for what they find “cool” and fresh.

Beyond art, alternative investments like cryptocurrencies, digital assets, and even streetwear are gaining traction. As Stuart Porter, a wealth coach, explains: “This generation has grown up in the digital age, so they’re more open to the idea of investing in crypto and NFTs.”

A Bank of America report reveals that nearly one-third of younger investors’ portfolios are made up of cryptocurrencies and alternative assets, while the older generation only dedicates 6% to these areas. Real estate, still a popular choice, remains part of their diversified approach, offering stability alongside more unconventional ventures. Property investment continues to appeal due to its long-term appreciation potential and as a hedge against inflation, especially in prime global markets like Dubai and New York. Additionally, there is a growing desire among young millionaires to purchase branded residences, which offer exclusivity, luxury, and the association with prestigious global brands.

Impact investing is another key trend, with millennials and Gen Z leading the charge. They are increasingly focused on aligning their investments with environmental and social goals, driving growth in sectors like renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. The Global Impact Investing Network reported that impact assets surged to $1.164 trillion in 2023, driven largely by these younger investors.

Even footwear has found its place in investment portfolios. Adnan Jassat, founder of sneaker trading platform Thriller, believes sneakers should be a “minor part of everyone’s investment portfolio.” Limited-edition releases from brands like Nike and Adidas have fuelled the resale market, transforming streetwear into a lucrative investment opportunity.

Luxury travel and experiences are also being redefined. Younger high-net-worth individuals are increasingly opting for unique, immersive experiences over material possessions. A McKinsey report from May 2024 suggests that the luxury tourism and hospitality sector will grow faster than others, driven by this demand for bespoke adventures and exclusive cultural experiences.

The future of investment is being shaped by this new generation’s bold approach. As traditional wealth management strategies adapt, it’s clear that the playbook is being rewritten. Whether it’s art, crypto, property, or impact-focused ventures, young millionaires are shaking up the world of investment with their feisty, innovative approach.

Branded residences are more than just luxury real estate—they’re a reflection of personal style, identity, and status. Investing in these properties offers not only unmatched exclusivity and high-end amenities but also the prestige of owning a residence associated with a globally renowned brand.
